Common questions

Where does the UV index come from?

From Apple WeatherKit, the same source as the Weather app, with Open-Meteo as a fallback when WeatherKit is unavailable. The source is shown in Settings under Data.

Why does the app need my location?

UV changes a lot from place to place, so the app uses your location to show the UV where you are standing. If you turned location off, open the iOS Settings app, tap UV Safe Tan, then Location, and choose While Using the App.

How is my burn time worked out?

From your skin type, the SPF you are wearing, and the hourly UV forecast. The timer adds up the UV dose minute by minute, so it stretches as the sun gets lower. Turn on the sand or water option at the beach, because those surfaces reflect extra UV. Change your skin type or SPF on the Home tab.

What is the difference between Protect and Tan?

Protect runs until your estimated burn point. Tan stops earlier, at about 70 percent of that dose, because staying out longer only adds burn risk without a better tan.

I am not getting reapply reminders or UV alerts.

Check that notifications are allowed for UV Safe Tan in the iOS Settings app, and that the alerts you want are switched on in UV Safe Tan Settings. Focus modes can also hold notifications back.

How do I add the widget?

Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen or Lock Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for UV Safe Tan. Open the app once first so the widget has a reading to show.

How do I cancel my subscription?

In UV Safe Tan, open Settings and tap Manage subscription. Or open the iOS Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then UV Safe Tan, then Cancel Subscription. Cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access until the period you already paid for runs out.

I already subscribed, but the app is asking me to subscribe again.

Tap Restore Purchases. Your subscription is attached to your Apple Account, so make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with. If it still does not come back, write to us with the date of purchase and we will sort it out.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles every purchase and refund for App Store apps. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and request one there. We cannot issue it for you, but do write to us if the app let you down, because we would rather fix the problem.
