Privacy Policy
UV Safe Tan shows the live UV index where you are, estimates how long your skin can stay in the sun before it burns, and reminds you to reapply sunscreen. There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to. We do not run a server that receives your data. This page explains exactly what the app uses, where it goes, and why.
Your location
The app asks for your location while you are using it, so it can show the UV index for where you actually are. Your precise coordinates are used on your device and are sent to a weather service only to fetch the UV forecast for that spot:
- Apple WeatherKit is the main source. Apple's handling of the request is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
- Open-Meteo is used as a fallback when WeatherKit is not available. It receives the coordinates and returns the forecast. No name, account or device identifier is sent with the request.
The app also asks Apple's geocoding service to turn the coordinates into a place name, such as a city, so it can label the reading. Location is never used for advertising and is never sold.
What stays on your device
- Your first name, if you enter one, so the app can greet you.
- Sun profile. Your skin type, the SPF you use, and whether you are protecting or tanning.
- UV history. The places you have checked and the UV readings recorded there, used for the Trends charts.
- Timers and settings. Any running sun timer, when you last applied sunscreen, and your notification and appearance choices.
This is stored in the app's private storage and in an App Group shared with the UV Safe Tan widgets and Live Activity on the same device. It is never uploaded to us.
Notifications
Daily UV summaries, high UV alerts, reapply reminders and timer alerts are local notifications scheduled on your device. No push server is involved, and you can turn each one off in Settings.
Purchases
UV Safe Tan Pro subscriptions are purchased and billed through your Apple Account. Apple's privacy policy governs that transaction. We never see your name, email address, Apple Account or payment details.
To unlock Pro, restore it on a new device and keep it in step with renewals, cancellations and refunds, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription management service that acts on our behalf. RevenueCat receives:
- A random ID the app creates on your device. It is not tied to your name, email or Apple Account.
- Your purchase and subscription history for UV Safe Tan: which plan, the price and currency, the App Store country, transaction IDs, and purchase, renewal and expiry dates.
- Basic technical details needed to answer the request: app version, iOS version, device model, language and region, and the IP address the request comes from.
RevenueCat never receives your location, name, skin type or UV history. This information is used only to provide and support your subscription. It is not used for advertising and is not sold. RevenueCat's handling of it is described in the RevenueCat privacy policy.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal data or share it with anyone for advertising.
- There are no ads and no advertising SDKs in the app.
- There is no analytics SDK, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. The app does not use the Advertising Identifier.
- The app does not ask for your contacts, camera, microphone, photos or health data.
Children
UV Safe Tan is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Your control
You can turn off location access at any time in the iOS Settings app, though the app then cannot show UV for where you are. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device. Deleting the app does not delete purchase records held by RevenueCat. To have those erased, write to us and we will ask RevenueCat to delete them. Your subscription is still recorded by Apple, so you can restore it later.
This website
This site uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard request information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
Changes
If a future version of the app adds a service that receives any data, this policy is updated before that version is released, and the date at the top of this page changes with it.
